Bridging the Knowledge Gap: Custom Glossary for Biotech

UX/UI Design & Editorial Design

Client: Summit Therapeutics and Pulse Bioscience

Role: Creative and Art Direction / UX Lead

The Context:

Understanding from basic biology terminology to complex scientific jargon can be a major barrier in the biotech industry. At Summit Therapeutics and Pulse Bioscience, non-scientific employees struggled to grasp crucial terms used in research and development, hindering communication and collaboration.

The challenge:

By upselling the original request from stakeholder to only create a physical glossary (paper catalog) we bridged the gap and tackled this challenge head-on by designing a custom glossary platform that revolutionized their internal knowledge sharing. Our interactive solution offered:

A dynamic database that easily add, edit, and manage glossary terms. And a seamless integration with API integration for real-time term definitions with "glossary widget" that highlights and defines terms directly on company webpages.

The results:

Employees across departments, from C-executives to the janitorial team, received the paper copy. Building of back-end of the interactive solutions are still in development.

Methodologies applied and responsibilities:

  • Research

  • Upselling presentation

  • Direct the layout and design, plus lead our team of four, two witters and one illustrator.

  • Present ideas to stakeholders and other theme groups

Empowering Everyone with Real-Time Terminology

Our API integration seamlessly injects knowledge into the web experience. Whether it's a potential investor exploring your pipeline or a new employee navigating their first project, every website visitor has instant access to clear, contextually relevant definitions, derivations and illustrations at their fingertips, just a tap away.

Beyond Paper Glossaries

The dynamic platform glossary empowers the company to add more and manage terms, and users to find instant definitions, and also highlight links where those words are used across the website, research, and white papers. This context-rich experience fosters confident communication and collaboration throughout the organization.

We named the platform Slice, as it don't just define terms, it dissects them like a scientist in the lab

Inclusive access for all

While pushing for our innovative online and interactive glossary, the stakeholder still desired a physical version. Embracing this, I led my team of writers and illustrators in crafting a stunning and portable catalog catering specially to the non-computer-centric employees. This beautiful solution ensured inclusive terminology access throughout the company.
